The Future is Human - with Kayleigh O'Keefe

Jan 10, 2023

There’s no better time to reset your intentions than the beginning of a new year. But in order to figure out your resolutions for 2023, you must first reflect back on everything that happened in 2022. Today, Kayleigh shares her 5 step process for reflecting on the year with intention.

Kayleigh’s 5 step process can help you gracefully navigate a transition, determine your goals for the year, and change things about your life that are no longer serving you. The first step for reflecting on your year is to write down the categories that matter most to you in your life. These can be a wide range of things like travel, family, relationships, health, faith– really anything that you feel is important that you want to focus on. Next, free-write for 8 to 10 minutes about each category. Don’t think too hard about this, just write anything that comes to mind. Third, take a step back and highlight any important, big things that happened during the year. Fourth, celebrate the journey. Even wins that feel small in the moment can have a huge impact on the bigger picture. The final step is to determine what you need to release from your life. This is a difficult, but pivotal step as it allows you to let go of everything that is not in alignment with your goals.

The new year provides a fantastic opportunity for reflection on the past year and intention setting for the year ahead. This time of collective pause can be a very useful chance to take a comprehensive look at all your accomplishments from 2022 and think about what you would like to achieve in 2023. It is also a great time to think about what you would like to let go and release yourself from. Tune into The Future is Human with host Kayleigh O’Keefe to learn more about the five step process and how it can help you prepare for the year ahead.

Quotes

• “Writing is one of the primary ways that I find to be a valuable tool for taking advantage of this pause in order to just kind of do a State of the Union, what's working, what's not working, how are you feeling, things like that as you prepare for this year ahead.” (12:54-13:13 | Kayleigh)

• “We're not often taught how to transition gracefully.” (13:58-14:01 | Kayleigh)

• “Oftentimes to create more capacity we have to release. And so much of what we have to release is old stories, old patterns.” (14:12-14:23 | Kayleigh)

• “Why would you do this process? Well, one, you're going through a massive transition. Two, it's the new year and you're like, new goals. Who do I want to become? What do I need to do? Three, you don't like what's going on in your life, so you want some different things next year, you want a better relationship, you want your kids to behave better, you want to finally publish that book, you want to apply for that role that you've been like, am I good enough, these are some of the reasons why you take this time now to pause to reflect and to consider where you're going.” (15:57-16:28 | Kayleigh)

• “What's big could be something super small that shifted everything.” (22:17-22:21 | Kayleigh)
